DUSAN SWALENS
Born in Zlin, Czechoslovakia *1974
He graduated from Film College, specializing in photography and
camera. He worked for regional television and also as a cameraman
for the Czech Television. For several years, he was the official
photographer of the International Film Festival for Children and Youth
in Zlin, Czech Republic. He was a photographer and editor of the quarterly news bulletin Zpravodaj published by the Czech expatriate association "Beseda" in Belgium. In this association, he organized courses of creative photography.
It should be mentioned that life gave him a taste of the work of a craftsman with wood in interiors, he worked as a souvenir seller, manager of several stores and eventually became the owner of chocolate shops in picturesque Bruges. With Katerina Hejdova founded and operated an art gallery.
The Elements
The Elements is the first volume of an ambitious series named Macrophotography. Since the 90s, the author Dusan Swalens has been experimenting with macrophotography and provoking the public towards a creative perception of photography. Over the last twenty years he has created several sets of photographs, which he has decided to introduce one by one not only in exhibitions, but also as a book, calendar etc.
Puppets
The photographs of the puppets were taken in the unique world collection of the Royal Puppet Museum Peruchet in Brussels, Belgium. The "Collections Peruchet" is the name of the book which was also created from this project together with the director of the museum Mr. Dimitri Jageneau.
Bio
The second volume of photographs is inspired - as its name BIO suggests - by nature or, more precisely, by botany. Dušan Swalens provides here a view of plants - their flowers, fruit, leaves, stalks, tubers and roots - in an original way.
The photographs were taken in botanical gardens in Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Czech and Slovak Republic, as well as in the author's unique collection of cactuses and succulent plants and outdoors in nature.
Books & calendars
Because visual communication knows no language barriers, Dusan Swalens wants to hit European and Asian markets with his first publication. In the volume with the name The Elements the author selected four colections of photos with Kateřina Pešatová, the author of the accompanying texts, these refer to the basic elements recognized by almost all natural philosophical schools as the basis of the world: earth, fire, air and water.
The photographs in the second publication BIO reveal an astonishingly delicate aesthetic of flora worldwide.
The accompanying texts are published in English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Dutch, Czech and Chinese.
